Then I want you to do a couple of things with the photography:

1. What is your favorite photo in the entire paper?
1A. Why is this your favorite?
1B. What rules of photo composition are evident?

2. What is your least favorite photo in the entire paper?
2A. Why is this your least favorite?

3. If you were a photographer on staff, which event/photo assignment would you have liked to do for this issue? You will need to look through the entire paper and see the topics covered and decide which one you think would have been fun.

4. Overall, how would you rate the photography in this issue? What were the strong points and weak points.

I am asking you to do this because I want to see our photography improve next year. I think we do a good job, but I expect better. I want to know how you could impact the photography in the newspaper if you joined the class next year.

Favorite Magazine Cover

anity Fair, November 2014, Jennifer Lawrence
"Just before her intimate photos were hacked--and splashed across the Web--Jennifer Lawrence posed topless for Patrick Demarchelier for the cover of Vanity Fair's November issue. As part of the accompanying cover story, she decided to break her silence about one of the biggest scandals in Hollywood this year. The Guardian called her salvo "the end of the 'shamed starlet.'" So strong was the outpouring of social-media support for Lawrence's stance that The New York Times reported on the fact "fans took to Twitter to applaud her." Demarchelier's striking photos of the Hunger Games actress also helped spark a thoughtful debate about a woman's right to reveal her body. Lawrence (and the V.F. cover) made her message loud and clear: "It's my body, and it should be my choice."

This is my favorite magazine cover out of the top covers. I like this one, not only because I like Jennifer Lawrence, but I like the mood the photo has. Her expression is interesting, and the background is interesting as well. I also like the messiness of her hair, and the way the jewelry draws your eyes in. The nudity isn't so blatant that it is distasteful, but it is different. Its sexy, but not trashy which is sometimes hard to do. I like that there is text above the heading that helps describe the picture. The reader can assume that the cover was a way to get her point across that she is comfortable with her body.

Prompt Shoot #2

Cold

Purple

CE #4.3

1. The Zika virus is in Travis County, the virus is linked to birth defects, it has  been found active in saliva and urine, pregnant women are at risk for the virus, there is no vaccine for Zika.

2. They are promoting reusable energy by beginning a solar project, where they place solar panels on the base.

3. Electrician, licensed practical nurse, and massage therapist.

4. The Denver Broncos won, and the score was 24-10.

5. Start your engines.

Out of the photos, my favorite was the Flight of The Angel photo. I liked this photo because the subject was candid, and the architecture in the background is eye catching.
The Ole image was the most interesting, because there is movement captured inside the picture, and the colors are vibrant. Also, the bull and bullfighter represent a great deal of spanish culture, which I find interesting. I found the  Counting by Hand image to be boring. There wasn't very much going on within the image, and it was overall very plain. It wasn't eye-catching at all, because it has no movement. The Flight of the Angel had the most interesting subject, because she was wearing different clothes, which stands out. Also, she is very candid and seems to be enjoying herself.

Portraits and Self-Portraits

Best Portrait Tips

Move Your Subject Out of their Comfort Zone

Using Reflective Surfaces

1. What are the characteristics of an environmental portrait?
An environmental portrait has an interesting background that is not simplistic.

2. What is the difference between an environmental portrait and a casual portrait?

A casual portrait focuses mainly on the subject and an environmental portrait has equal focus on both the subject and the background.

3. What will you need to do to get a really good self-portrait?

I will need to find somewhere that I feel has a lot to do with my personality, and I will also have to find a way to make the picture reflect who I am.

4.  When you go take these pictures, and you will eventually turn in one of each, a portrait and a self-portrait, describe to me what you would like to do and who you would like to take a portrait of and where you might shoot these images.

I would take my self portrait on the hiking trail behind Bowie near the dried up creek. I would like to take the portrait of my friend Siena, near the bee hives near the track.

I like this Environmental Portrait because there is a lot going on in the photo, and there subject in the photo has an interesting expression on his face, making the portrait more interesting.

This is my favorite self portrait that I saw, because there is a lot of emotion within the image.

I like this casual portrait, because the angle it is taken at makes it more interesting.
