Car story

On May 20 at 8:46 am, a flashing yellow light flashes on the hood of Keri Warnicks 2014 Camry. She cautiously turns onto Brodie lane, beginning her weekday drive to Bowie high school to drop of her daughter and her friend Katie Ash. The clean black leather interior keeps the already black car warm, as it sits in the sun in front of the Deerfield apartments.

"I like the black because it looks cool, but it gets really hot from sitting in the sun all day long." Warnick says.

Mrs.Warnick has owned this black Camry for only one month, after getting rid of her white 4runner.

"I liked the 4runner, but it got pricy because the gas mileage was so low."

The new Camry Mrs.Warnick now has gets 36mph compared to the 4runner which got barely over 23mph.

"The gas millage on this car is amazing."Warnick says.

Another Camry owner James Ash has similar claims of the gas mileage that the Camry gets.

"This car runs good, way better than the old Subaru (Forrester) I had." Ash said.

Warnick's two daughters Siena 15 and Milan 11, both enjoy the car. Although, Siena believes that the 4runner was more practical.

"I wish [Keri] kept the 4runner because it was supposed to be my car, and the Camry is a lot different" said Siena Rea.

Siena Rea, who was supposed to receive the 4runner, may not approve of the Camry, but her sister Milan Rea is indifferent.

"As long as we have a car its fine with me" said Milan Rea.

Many of Keri Warnick's friends approve of her new car choice, including Mara Ash.

"We used to have a Camry and it was very reliable, I'm sure Keri appreciates that" said Ash.

One eye-catching detail of the all black Camry is the unique bumper sticker applied to the back window. The neon multicolored frog holding up a peace sign with paisley pattern contrasts with its dark surroundings and doesn't go unseen.

"That frog is from a convenient shop in Seattle, I thought it was the coolest thing, I never saw anything like it," said Keri Warnick.

The black Camry pulls up at Bowie high school as Siena Rea and Katie Ash prepare to get out of the car. Siena and Katie say their goodbyes and leave Keri to drive back through traffic as she attempts to get home in time for her 9:15 phone conference.

5. Disneys the Jungle Book, Captain america:Cilvil War, Money Monsters, The Darkness, and mothers day.

Short Answer:
If I had to choose between Disney World and Harry Potter I would probably choose Harry Potter, because I enjoyed the books so much, and I have already been to Disney World. The competition between the two are heating up because Universal studios just recently opened a new castle that is supposed to be almost the same as the Hogwarts in the movie. This is starting to attract more people, but I don't think that it will last for very long. Although there can be many books that Harry Potter World can add, Disney World has infinitely more possibilities, because they can always make another movie to suit their needs. My favorite Disney character is Thomas O'malley from the aristocats. I love this character because he is funny and silly, and he plays swinging jazz music which, when i was a kid I found very entertaining. I would belong in Ravenclaw, because I am very creative and witty.

Final Exam planning warm-up

I will be going hiking at Mckinny park next weekend and will be shooting then. My story will be about hiking up the large rock with my friend. I will need a DSLR, and will have to come in a few days for FIT, so that I can use iMovie. I will take a video of my friend free climbing up the side of the mountain, on the hard parts, and then use still pictures when we stop to take a break, and when we get to the top of the rock.

If plans change and I can't go hiking I will take a video of dance rehearsal, and then of the dress rehearsal, which I will need a tripod for, so that I can get images of when i am in the dance.

Intro to HDR Photography

1. What manipulations to the camera will you need to make to create an HDR image? Change the exposure level by varying the shutter speed/appeture combinations.
2. What equipment will we use to take this type of image? A camera(with an Auto Exposure Bracket), a tripod, and a HDR photo-blending software.
3. What is the reason someone might take an HDR image? You may want to take a HDR image so that you can have a higher definition image with more contrast and an overall better resolution.
4. What can we expect to happen with the images once we merge them together, what will we see that we might not have seen with just one photo? We can see more
definition.

I use Lyft often when I am going around town, because I don't have a car of my own, and the city bus won't necessarily take you to the exact location you want. I found that it was a good experience, because the drivers are usually very friendly. Ride sharing is definitely a good thing for the Austin Community, because it is a safe way to get home if you are stranded somewhere. I think that a taxi company is much more expensive, and they usually take much longer, because they are not always in the area. With Lyft, the longest you may have to wait for a ride is 15 minutes (at least in my experience). Although I love using Lyft, I believe that it needs to remain safe. That being said, they should be held to very strict safety regulations. Although I haven't experienced an unsafe ride, I have a friend who was picked up by a driver who was under the influence, and because there was no way for Lyft to see something like that, the situation couldn't be prevented. My friend ended up calling another ride and reporting the driver, but she doesn't know if the driver was fired or not. Lyft needs to be held responsible for their drivers, along with other ride sharing companies. They need to keep the passengers/customers safe, and ensure that nothing bad happens. This is why, even though I am an avid user of Lyft, I am glad that Prop one was rejected, because if Lyft isn't ready to make their rides safer, they shouldn't be allowed to operate.

It's Aboat a True Story

The riveting thriller Captain Phillips has been a smash hit in box offices. The captivating plot (based on true events) about the kidnapped captain Richard Phillips (played by Tom Hanks) has audiences on the edge of their seats. When the Somali pirates Abdul Muse and Ali Aden Elmi (played by Barkhad Abdi and Faysal Ahmed) take over the Maersk Alabama shipping boat, no one knows quite how the story will play out. Throughout the entire movie the audience roots for captain Phillips, and are absorbed by the movie. Director Paul Greengrass keeps the audiences attention with his unique film style. The fact that this movie was filmed on a real ship makes it even more interesting. This PG-13 movie is best for those who enjoy realistic action and suspense.

I would give this movie 4/5 stars, because although it was extremely entertaining, the development of the characters was very lengthly.

Star rating:
1-plot is uninteresting, not captivating, little development or conflict
2-actors depict parts poorly, plot is uninteresting/doesn't go anywhere
3-good plot, actors portray characters well, conflict is somewhat interesting
4-very entertaining, actors create a realistic character, audiences are captivation
5-Plot is extremely captivating, audience is caught up in the movie, conflict is riveting

Captain Phillips

1. Who are the main characters you would expect to see in the movie, based on the real life events?
I would expect Richard Phillips, Somali pirates, other crew mates, Abduli Muse.

2. Briefly, in 2-3 paragraphs, tell me what you expect the plot to be in the movie, based on the real life events?

The plot of the movie will be Richard Phillips and the rest of his crew depart from Salalah and are expected to arrive in Mombasa, but their ship is attacked by pirates from Somalia. Phillips is captured by the pirates, and is held hostage, meanwhile the crew sinks the pirate speedboat by continuously swinging the rudder on their ship. Then as the pirates begin to board the ship, the crew locks themselves in the engine room. Then they overpower a pirate and hold him hostage so that the other pirates will let them go. Then the crew will drop a lifeboat overboard so that they can meet with the pirates and exchange hostages (phillips for other pirate). Then the USS Bainbridge and the USS Halyburton come to save the crew, and give them a armed escort to Mombassa.

3. Why was this story important?

This story was important because it showed an interesting conflict that many people were not aware existed.

4. Why did the pirates try to take the ship?

The pirates tried to take the ship in order to take whatever goods the Maersk Alabama had.

1. List the five most important actors in the film.

2. What is the movie rated?

Free Write

I rush across the heavily crowded downtown street, feeling people grunt as I attempt to push past them. I get glares and annoyed glances, but I don't care. I'm twenty minutes late to my first day as an accountant for a new firm. Lately I've been trying to kick the habit of being chronically late, but nothing seems to help. I pressed snooze on all four of my set alarm clocks, and sat in my bed while I was supposed to be getting ready. It wasn't a surprise, my being late, it just was.

When I finally make it to the office building, I had to stop and get a badge so that I could get in the elevator and go upstairs. This only resulted in me being more late.
"Usually they ask you to come in earlier." A female security officer tells me. I stare blankly at her for a moment, analyzing the coffee stain on her shirt. She notices me staring, and immediately attempts to cover it with her arm.
"Anyways," she coughs, "I can't find your badge. You will have to wait for us to print off a new one"

I sigh, and roll my eyes. At least now I will have an excuse for being late. "Very well then, thank you." I say smiling. Why does this always happen to me? I turn away from the security desk and try to find something to do while I wait.

I decide to make my way across the lobby towards the espresso machine. I glance down at the message on my phone, its my boss, asking why I haven't showed up yet. Of course, I tell myself, making a bad impression on my first day. As I respond with an apology and excuse for being late, I feel scalding hot coffee hit the front of my white blouse. Cursing under my breath, I attempt to find a napkin to prevent the large stain that will soon grow. In the raging chaos, I don't bother to stop and question where the coffee came from, Im only concerned with how to get it off. When I realize all hope is lost, I look up to yell at whoever just cost me my new blouse. My eyes connect with a tall man with dark brown eyes in a navy suit. He looks at me slyly and shrugs.
"Excuse me." I grunt angrily as the man turns his back.
"You're excused Aria."
My head whips back to look at the man. He called me by my name... I quickly rewind the situation that had just played out, and I realized, I never told him my name. Before I can say anything to him, the security guard calls me over and hands me my badge.
"Thank you." I say quickly as I look at the badge. 'Aria Cano' it says in block print. I walk to the elevator, and look around one last time for the man, and then swipe my badge. The screen turns red, and reads 'Access denied'.
"But they just gave me this thing..." I say aloud.
"You're swiping it the wrong way," a familiar voice behind me says."Here, let me."
I turn around to look at the man again, and before I can say something he takes the badge out of my hand. He slides it with ease, most likely because he does it every day. I automatically assume he is an employee of the company, but I don't bother to ask. His presence makes me uncomfortable, the way he acts like he already knows everything about me, and everything that is going to happen. On someone else it would come off as cocky, but on him, it is slightly admirable.
The elevator door opens, and the man slips inside along with me. I press my floor number, and turn to ask the man for his, but I see another number is already lit up.
"So how has your morning been so far?" the man asks.
"Good, but there was this one weird guy who followed me into the elevator." I joke.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." He laughs.
"Its alright." I say. I want to ask him his name, but I don't know how. He is extremely intimidating, and an attempt at a conversation seems pointless and would most likely be one-sided.
"My name is Elijah." He speaks up. I look at him and tilt my head, as if changing the perspective could help me figure out what this guys deal is.
"Well I would say mine, but you already sorted that out." I laugh uneasily.
"Again, sorry about that." He replies.
The elevator dings as it comes to his floor. The door begins to open, and the elevator is flooded with light. Before my eyes can adjust, I realize that Elijah is pulling me out of the elevator with him. I try to fight back, but he persists. When I reach my bearings I realize that we are no longer in an office building, we are in the middle of an open field, with green grass and vibrant skies, nothing like the bustling D.C. I was just in. I am taken aback by my new surroundings, and I have to catch my breath to avoid losing my mind.
"Would you like to come on an adventure with me Aria?" Elijah asks.

I believe that this is outrageous, the individuals living in Flint should not have had to go through this, and had these officials not covered up the lead poisoning, it is possible that the situation could've been absolved sooner. I was previously aware of the situation in Flint, but I did not know that they had finally discovered who was responsible in covering it up. The people who were aware of the ongoing hazard should be fined. It is preposterous, others should not have to suffer because of individuals who lack the courage to speak up. I believe that everyone who took part in provoking the crisis should be held responsible to the same extent, because even if just one person had spoken out, it could've prevented a lot of damage that was done. The individuals responsible failed their city, and didn't have the towns best interests in mind, and that is unacceptable.

Current Event #5.3

1. AISD and the city of Austin are working to keep more money in schools, by creating a limited tax swap, so that certain school services are funded by the city.

2. It will take California six years.

3. The Wildcats won 77-74.

4. I would visit Chile, because I have always wanted to visit Patagonia.

5. I like the idea of Instagram expanding the video time, because it allows people to post more, and the you can see more media.

The major republican candidates left are Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, and the major democratic candidates are Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.I personally support Bernie Sanders, although it is unlikely that he will win. I like the ideas he has about funding planned parenthood, and creating equal pay. Although, Clinton has similar ideas to him, and is much more likely to win the election, if a democrat wins. I think that the country will become more divided, especially because so much of the election process is in social media. This election is more focussed on publicity than the actual politics, and this is what is hurting most people. They are not getting educated on politics, and are more concerned with who looks better. This is a major concern, because when people go to vote, they will be thinking about a fake story about a politician that they heard, rather than focussing on politics. For example, people would rather talk about Donald Trumps grandchild being born than questioning wether or not e is going to support the countries economy.
I think that not enough of the candidates are discussing women's rights, and getting equal pay for women, but they are discussing the refugees, and building "a wall". I think that the candidates aren't talking about the most important topics like women's rights and raising the minimum wage, and what raising the minimum wage would do to our country.

I think he smashed ABRAHAM, because Neagan called whoever he smashed a he, and Abraham has been acting super weird for the last half of the season, and it had to build up to something. Also, it couldn't be Glenn or Rick because they already ended a season with Glenn almost being killed and they wouldn't do it twice, and without Rick Neagan wouldn't be able to get a deal.

Sports Exploration Activity

Women's Soccer

Mexican Women's Football Team

Mexico is ranked 26th in the world on the FIFA Women's World Ranking.

The top ranking teams are
1.USA
2.Germany
3.France
4.England
5.Australlia

So far in the 2015-16 season, the Mexico women's soccer team has done well, winning 6/10 of their games. Although the American women's team won the women's championship last season, the Mexico team hopes to make it in the running, after not making it to playoffs last year.

In soccer there are many rules, but some of the most important are not touching the ball, keeping the ball in bounds, and not kicking or cleating the other players.

Some words that many people may not know are

Box- the area where players go when they break a rule
Flank- "the 10 - 15 yards from the side lines, often where crosses come in from"
breakaway- "counter attack where rapid movement is made into forward space. Counter attacking soccer is a strategy employed by teams when playing away from home"

One example of a cliche in soccer is that the latin teams are better, however USA is ranked first in women's soccer.

Brazilian player Marta is the best Latin American women's football player of all time. She has won player of the year a record five times, and has scored eighty goals with only 74 appearances. She was born of February 19, 1986 in Dois Riachos Brazil, and started playing soccer as a little kid. When her career first began, she played for Brazil in the 2002 World Championship, and then again in the 2003 FIFA Women's Cup. She then went on to Sweden and joined Umea IK. She switched teams again i 2009, and played for the LOS Angeles Sol of the Women's Professional Soccer League. During that contract, she ended up playing with FC Gold Pride and Western New York Flash. At the end of her contract she won MVP honors. Once her American contract was up, she moved back to Sweden and signed with Tyreso FF and won a league title.

Spring Break Story

You could hear the roar of the ocean being drowned out by the loud strumming of a guitar. Not only was the guitar ringing in my ears, but also I was dizzy from turning. My sore feet were doing the cumbia all by themselves. I had no energy left, and my body was going into overdrive. One more song I reminded myself. I glanced over at the clock as the song came to an end. 12:00. The mariachi had wrapped up what seemed to be a never-ending stream of music. And I made my way back to the table where I had left my room key. I picked it up and walked hurriedly back to my room where I knew my mother was waiting for me.
The air smelled like the beach, salty and crisp. It was a smell that I loved more than I cared to admit. I wanted to bottle up the smell and keep it somewhere safe, so that I could open it and remember when I was back in Austin.
Austin… I wondered how everyone was doing. I dreaded being without Wi-Fi or a phone that worked, but at the same time I enjoyed not thinking about it. I didn’t have to worry about replying or talking to anyone else. I could be reclusive, but be focusing on me, instead of what everyone else was thinking. I suppose that was the point of the trip, connecting to myself. At least, that’s what my mother continuously preached to us about.
I walked up the tiled stairs to the door and inserted my room key, and pulled the door ajar. My mom sat in the chair adjacent to the door, reading Cosmo. She didn’t even look up at me. I went about my business and changed into my pajamas and crawled into the already made bed.
I awoke with a start the next morning. Lauren was jumping on my bed in an attempt to get me out of bed. I grudgingly agreed, breakfast being my only motivation. The thought of chorizo and eggs was enough to make my mouth water.
“There’s no time for breakfast today,” my mom said throwing a granola bar at me. “We have things to do.”
            “What things?” I ask annoyed.
“I’m not going over it another time for you.” She growled.

Now I was a little more than slightly annoyed. I couldn’t get breakfast, and I was being dragged out of bed to do God knows what. Nonetheless, I didn’t want to start anything with my mom. I threw on some shorts and a tank top, while stuffing the granola bar into my mouth. My mom walked out the door, as I put on my shoes, struggling to put them on faster. I didn’t want to be late for whatever she had planned.
I close the door of the cab shut, still angry that I have no idea where we are going. I want to ask again, but I don’t want to be yelled at in front of the cab driver. I sit and stare out of the window and look at passing signs, trying to figure out where on earth my mother has decided to take us. Then I remember, we are going to Chichenitza.
